True grassroots events are few and far between; particularly destination events attracting participants each year from 40+ states, 6+ countries, and governmental delegations from Kenya,Copper Canyon, Mexico; and theNavajo Nation. The multi-cultural gathering held the third Sunday of September provided a venue for artists from throughout New Mexico and the Southwest to share in the spirit of health and wellness.

Santa Fe Thunder empoweredGlobal Running Culture to carry out its mission of bettering the lives of youth through the powers of sport and education in 3 communities where running is a vital part of the culture: northern New Mexico,Copper Canyon, Mexico; and the village of Matunget, Kenya.
